TYPO3 a Digital Public Good
Industry Insights, Updates
TYPO3, the open-source content management system (CMS) that underpins many of our digital builds, has officially been recognised as a Digital Public Good by the Digital Public Goods Alliance-a global initiative aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This certification reflects a growing acknowledgement of TYPO3’s commitment to inclusive digital infrastructure, open innovation, and ethical technology practices. At Ocular, we’ve long seen the value in TYPO3's flexibility, community governance, and longevity—and it’s encouraging to see that commitment recognised at a global level.
Open Source, Open Access
Since its beginnings in 1998, TYPO3 has been more than just a CMS. It’s a community-led platform, maintained by a not-for-profit association that champions transparency, accessibility, and digital sovereignty. With a strong footprint across Europe and the Global South, TYPO3’s model empowers local ecosystems—offering skills development, employment opportunities, and non-exploitative digital solutions for organisations of all sizes.
Its inclusion in the Digital Public Goods Registry underscores its compliance with core SDG principles such as open access, privacy protection, and non-discrimination. For governments, NGOs, and public-serving institutions, this makes TYPO3 not only a practical choice—but an ethically sound one too.
Why This Matters
At OCULAR, we use TYPO3 for complex content needs because it’s robust, secure, and built to scale. But just as importantly, it aligns with our values. We care about working with tools that respect users, communities, and the wider digital ecosystem.
TYPO3’s recognition as a Digital Public Good reaffirms what we’ve known for years: open source platforms, when governed well, are powerful enablers of sustainable digital transformation.
